ST25 by KOTO – A Fusion of Culinary Excellence and Community Impact

Step into the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, and you'll find a culinary haven that goes beyond mere dining. Last December marked the debut of ST25 by KOTO, a radiant addition to the city’s vibrant culinary scene.

Hieu Le, the affable restaurant manager, welcomed us into a warm embrace of flavors and culture, where chefs orchestrated symphonies in open kitchens, and service staff gracefully ushered us into a world of gastronomic delight.

Unveiling ST25 by KOTO

Located on the second floor of the luxury Sofitel Saigon Plaza hotel, ST25 by KOTO isn't just another eatery; it's a culinary collaboration between Sofitel Saigon Plaza and KOTO – Vietnam's pioneering social enterprise dedicated to empowering youth through education.

The restaurant's name, "ST25 by KOTO," pays homage to the celebrated Vietnamese rice variety, ST25, awarded the "World's Best Rice" in 2019. It embodies the essence of Vietnamese culture, where rice transcends sustenance, symbolizing the resilience, creativity, and unwavering passion of Vietnam.

A Contemporary Twist on Vietnamese Classics

As we perused the menu, we discovered both familiar and innovative Vietnamese dishes, all of which are infused with regional ingredients.

Hieu enlightened us about ST25 by KOTO's contemporary twist on traditional cuisine, a culinary dance curated by the dynamic duo of Bao La and Heath Gordon, both of whom are Australian with a deep connection to Vietnam. Their menu showcases a diverse range of Vietnamese dishes crafted with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.

Chef Bao La, speaking at the restaurant's unveiling, shared their passion for creating unforgettable flavors that not only tantalize the palate but also etch lasting memories for every guest.

Beyond the Plate: KOTO's Legacy of Empowerment

Yet, ST25 by KOTO is more than a dining destination – it's a beacon of hope for disadvantaged youths across Vietnam. Founded in 2000 by Jimmy Pham, KOTO Foundation spearheads comprehensive hospitality training, breaking the cycle of poverty for young individuals. Over 1,200 KOTO graduates, like the restaurant manager Hieu Le, have transformed their lives, securing positions in established hotels and restaurants worldwide.

Hieu's journey from an underprivileged youth to restaurant manager mirrors the transformative power of KOTO's programs. As an orphan, Hieu found a home and purpose through KOTO's hospitality training, working in renowned restaurants abroad and in Vietnam before returning to contribute to his KOTO family alongside his “brothers and sisters”.

A Toast to Good Causes

At the heart of ST25 by KOTO is a commitment to community and corporate social responsibility. Sofitel Saigon Plaza, in a testament to its dedication, joined forces with KOTO to birth this unique restaurant. Mr. Mario Mendis, General Manager of Sofitel Saigon Plaza, expressed excitement, stating, "ST25 by KOTO is a testament to our belief that every meal can be a force for good and that every dish can tell a story of tradition and innovation. Through ST25 by KOTO, up to 10% of each bill will be allocated to the KOTO fund."

As we savored our last bite and bid farewell to the KOTO family, a lingering sense of fulfillment enveloped us. Whether it was the exquisite flavors, the inspiring stories of the KOTO graduates, the paintings depicting Vietnamese rice fields neatly placed around the restaurant, or the knowledge that our meal contributed to a noble cause, one thing was certain – a return visit to ST25 by KOTO is already on the horizon.
